ONS MUSIC
On the Way to Success
ONS stands for “onderweg naar succes” (on the way to success) and advocates for emerging rappers and producers who want to make their restart in the hip-hop/urban scene through a non-formal learning path. ONS creates, facilitates and offers young people an environment where amateurs and professionals meet.
In addition, it simultaneously offers perspective for these artistic individuals to actually be on stage after a relatively short period.
The team of “WORD UP!” over the past year a
talent program called “Punchlines” for which about 60 young rappers had signed up. Under the guidance of Kareem Gazuani and Shaun Figaroa
the Word Up! team selected 16 rappers who live on GlowFM
were allowed to perform their tracks.
Of these 16, 10 talented rappers were eventually
selected who got to go to the writing camp in the Ardennes.
The rappers worked hard during this camp and the EP #OnderwegNaarSucces was recorded and produced there. This is also where the ad hoc formation ONS originated. These new talented rappers will represent the new generation of hip-hop.
The cultural diversity of the participants is very wide-ranging. For example, in 2017 we had participants with backgrounds from the Netherlands, Morocco, Ghana, Rwanda, Indonesia, Curaçao, America, among others.
Despite all differences in background in terms of origin, education and daily activities, the participants know how to blindly find each other from a creative perspective and make serious, good music. This proves once again that Urban is a culture that transcends ethnic backgrounds.
